Catholic Counseling Service | Quality Care. Prayerful Support.
The mission of the Archdiocese of New Orleans Catholic Counseling Service is multifaceted:
- To provide counseling and psychotherapy that upholds the values and principles of the Catholic faith. Examples include respecting the inherent dignity of the individuals we serve, affirming the sacramental nature of marriage, and maintaining the sacred mystery of family life.
- To provide high quality, affordable services to those who seek our care.
- To serve as an internship site for graduate students in mental health counseling. Our office is a training facility for these individuals, assisting in preparing the next generation of Catholic clinicians.
Catholic Counseling Service offers aid to individuals, couples, and families. These services include assistance with career concerns, stress and anxiety, relationship problems, parenting concerns, grief and loss, addictions, trauma, abuse, and adjustment to unexpected life changes. While we operate from a faith-based perspective, we leave specific dialogue on religion and spirituality to the discretion of the client.
Please note: we do not work individually with children younger than 13.
Individuals interested in receiving services from Catholic Counseling Service are asked to please contact our office at (504) 861-6245 for initial phone screenings.
If our intake personnel determine that we are the best center for your counseling needs, clients will then be assigned to one of our clinicians or clinical interns, who will promptly make contact in order to schedule a formal meeting. Once the appointment is set, clients are asked to refer back to this website and download the Initial Appointment Forms located below. These forms are to be completed by clients and brought to the scheduled appointment. Please note that these forms are lengthy by design. The process of completing them aids the clients in initiating reflection upon current stressors within their lives, and the information that they provide assists our therapist in gaining a better understanding of their current dilemmas. The information presented will be discussed during the first appointment.
Clients must be aware that the effectiveness of their counseling and psychotherapy sessions is largely contingent upon the level of trust formed with their individual therapists. No one therapist fits every person or situation well. Therefore, clients should please be advised to bring a trial approach to their early therapy sessions and to later evaluate these for their comfort levels. As one of our goals is to successfully form a trusting and collaborative relationship with clients while working together towards healing, clients retain the autonomy to determine if they would like to continue with their initially assigned clinicians or be referred to different ones after completing their early therapy sessions.
